The United State of Women invited me to create two designs for Black Women’s Equal Pay Day. August 22, 2019, is the date that Black women had to work until to earn as much money as her white, non-Hispanic male colleagues earned by the close of 2018. In number terms, here’s what that means: Black women are paid 61 cents for every dollar made by a white, non-Hispanic male, which adds up to a loss of more than $23,000 a year or more than $900,000 over the course of a 40-year career. At this pace, Black women would have to wait until 2119 to reach pay parity, according to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research.
